£1.5 million lottery boost to 'Revealing Oldknow's Legacy' Project

Fantastic news for Marple............The £1.5 million bid made by Mellor Archaeological Trust and Canal & River Trust to the Heritage Lotery Fund (HLF) has been successful. The three year project will see lots of activity centred around three important sites in Marple and Mellor which tell the story of Samuel Oldknow and the huge and lasting legacy he left behind.


 
The project seeks to protect and improve access to three sites connected with Samuel Oldknow and the early cotton industry: site of Mellor Mill, Marple Aqueduct and Marple Lime Kilns

The project will include archaeological investigations, environmental improvements, heritage training skills,   development of walking routes, interpretation and much more..................
