Planning Application DC/052067 - 7 Station Road

The society's honorary architect has made the following response to this planning application on behalf of the society:

"The site at 7 Station Road houses an existing bungalow of an original design which has a character of its own but is in the style of the area.
This site is not large and considering the traffic build up at the adjacent lights the ability to enter and leave the site in a formal gear is essential.

The existing building is, though, in need of renovation which would help to lift the area. The proposal to demolish the existing garage and build a 3 bedroom dormer bungalow is a complete over development of the site. The whole of the front of the site to be a hard surface for parking and a minimum strip of garden to the rear offers little if any amenity space to the new building.
The main area of garden for the existing building to the side is to also be turned into parking.
This site does have the potential for development but we believe that the proposals in this application are not sympathetic to the area or the adjacent building. We would not be against total demolition and a suitable new build. A modern interesting design would give new interest before entering the conservation area of Station Road.
The scheme presented is neither modern nor a reflection on what is there. What is more (is that) it completely fills the site being inappropriate and over development of the site."
